"The internet is slow" is the most common complaint we hear at a first meeting. And almost always the company's first reaction was the same: call the provider or buy a bigger plan. It rarely helps — because in 8 out of 10 cases the cause is not the uplink but something inside the office.

Cause 1: overloaded Wi-Fi

One access point for the whole office, installed "where the socket was" — a classic. Wi-Fi is a shared medium: thirty devices on one access point split it between themselves, while neighboring networks on the same channel add interference. The symptom is telling: everything flies over cable and crawls over Wi-Fi.

Cause 2: hardware from the wrong league

A $40 home router is great at home. In an office of 30 people it runs at its limit: connection tables overflow, the CPU chokes — and it silently starts dropping packets. Everything "sort of works", but calls stutter and the CRM opens on the third try. The fix is not "the most expensive gear" but equipment sized for the actual load.

Cause 3: something is eating the bandwidth

One cloud backup running during working hours, video syncing, or updates downloading on twenty machines at once — and the link is saturated. Without monitoring this looks like "the internet is slow again"; with monitoring it looks like a concrete graph: who consumes what, and when.

Cause 4: cables and the small stuff you can't see

A damaged cable that works "most of the time", a port that negotiated 100 Mbit instead of a gigabit, a loop made of two sockets patched into each other — details like these drag down the whole network, and finding them by eye is nearly impossible.

Why "reboot the router" is not a solution

A reboot clears the symptom and brings the problem back within an hour or a day. A real solution always starts with diagnostics: measuring where exactly the speed is lost — Wi-Fi, hardware, uplink or cabling. It's a one-time job that turns "the internet is slow" into a specific task with a specific price.
